06 May Acts 29 Western Europe Boot Camp: Day 2
Acts 29 WE Boot Camp “For All Seasons“, Day 2, the finale day, once again was Mark Driscoll and Steve Timmis. Steve Timmis closed it out. Here are the bullet points from Timmis teaching. He hammered it, these are the points that spoke to me, hit me where it counts.
Once again God wrecks me, He has so wreck me for what everyone considers the normal life. I am wrecked, refreshed & restored, all the stuff the gospel does to you!
It’s only the gospel that tells me who I am (identity), why I am (purpose), and what I am (function).
Love God and love people: “The gospel says whoever it’s about, it’s never about me!”
I can’t tell you ‘let’s go and plant’ but I can tell you who,why and what you are ‘in Christ’ so that succeed or fail you can glorify God.
In times of success or failure only the gospel tells me who I am. Why I am and what I am. Identity, purpose and function.
Listen church planter. Our identity is ‘in Christ’. It is the centre of the gospel. Our defining identity is ‘in Christ’
I’m in Christ. Nothing else ultimately matters. It’s a good job Paul believed that just Look at 2 Timothy.
What is my purpose? Why am I ‘in Christ’? To commend Christ because that is what glorifies God the most.
How do I live out my identity? By being a lover of God and a lover of others. Whoever it is about it is never about me!
I can’t tell you ‘let’s go and plant’ but I can tell you who,why and what you are ‘in Christ’ so that succeed or fail you can glorify God
Are we looking to church planting for our justification? Looking to church planting for our place in the world? These are the wrong motives.
“It’s only the gospel that tells me who I am (identity), why I am (purpose), and what I am (function).” My take away, this should hit us all where we live, why we live. That one sentence should define all we do, every things we do in life should revolve around the gospel and the carrying it to the world. Define who we are, are complete identity should be warped up in the gospel, not ones career, education, ones hobbies, or even family. But in Christ alone, His work on the cross, and Christ mission He passed on to us. The gospel defines who we are and why we live, why we do everything we do. Our very existence.
“In times of success or failure only the gospel tells me who I am. Why I am and what I am. Identity, purpose and function.” We must live in that truth, do all things from that truth!
Love God and love people: “The gospel says whoever it’s about, it’s never about me!” More words to live by, to wrap our lives around, the gospel is about us dieing to ourselves, our worldly want’s. Laying down our lives for Christ and others. Just as Jesus did. It’s about taking the gospel to the world, taking care of the needy, the poor, the downtrodden, the widow, the orphans. Rescuing the oppressed. It’s not abut us, but Jesus and others.
