career comback I was giving a copy of the book to review, although it is written for women the advice and principle apply to both sexes when it comes to career hunting in today’s economy. Two chapters are strictly for women when it comes to dress and presenting yourself, the rest are up to date advice on job hunting. She especially zeros in on the ‘”older” the over 40 crowed. She gives very good advice for “botoxing” your resume, updating it make your resume younger. In today’s job corporate world age discrimination is alive and well, and anyone who tells you different is under 35.

Anyone who is in the hunt for a new job, career, like myself will find her advice informative and helpful, women will get more out of the book than men. It’s not the new how to do manual, that has all you need to know. Or the one formula to get a new job, but you will get a lot of her book, especially if you have been out of the job hunting market for awhile, and even more so if you are in the 40 and over crowed.

So ladies if you are in need, looking for some fresh incite on job hunting and to freshen up you resume and want to make it anti-age proof, this book is worth a read.

maranathaI have determined to focus everyday this year on the return of Jesus Christ, it is what Jesus talk about daily, it was what the early church was expecting, anticipating to happen at any time, and so they lived according to that promise, expectation of Christ return. Paul stated that is what distinguished true followers of Christ from the rest of the world. Paul even stated that all the rest of the world that all they think about is things here on the earth, their minds are focused on day in and day living, the temporal things of the earthly life, while followers of Christ focused on His return.

We are to eagerly await and seek the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus to return and take His place as King. Jesus gave us the story of the 10 Virgins in Matthew 25:1-1. The story is about 10 virgins whom where awaiting their coming bridegroom, 5 prepared and where ready at his come, 5 where not. Only the five who where ready, looking for and awaiting His come, did He take into His Kingdom. Jesus summed  it up by saying ” Therefore watch, for you do not know either the day or the hour in which the Son of Man comes.”

In Mark 13:33-37 Jesus says; Take heed, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time is. As a man going away, leaving his house, and giving authority to his servants, and each man’s work to him, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Then you watch, for you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, at evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or early; lest he come suddenly and find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all. Watch.

As for me I chose to be a watchmen, looking for and living prepared for the return of Jesus. And one who is living in that promise as if it will be fulfilled today and proclaim Maranatha, the Lord is coming to all.

What possible may be  the world’s most expensive business card, of course has been crated by my friend Clifo for his Reactor Studio, where he creates EPIC brands! The new card uses 3 different papers layered together, fluorescent inks, metallic inks, laser die-cutting, 3 traditional die cuts, thermography, and even a hidden design fortune that pulls out of the center of the card. They spent two months designing and engineering the card and worked with the five different vendors required to pull this off. Cliff always believed in the power of the business card as a way to create the ultimate first impression. There card is also the ultimate portfolio piece, a showcase of what they can do.

If you are in need of a new business card and do not want the hum-drum sock look, talk with Cliff and see what he can create for your company image.

Check out the Reactor Studio Website for more info on what they can do and see some of their other work.

There is a book call Barnabas Factors: Eight Essential Practices of Church Planting Team Members, by author and professor J. D. Payne, that describes how Barnabas should be considered as a model for contemporary church planting team members. Each chapter of this work addresses a particular “Barnabas Factor, ” a healthy aspect of Barnabas’ life that assisted in Kingdom expansion.

While I was looking over the eight practices that his book contains that some listed on their blog it got me thinking that really these should be part of every Christians life. So I have taken Payne’s list and add a definition to each practices we all should be doing.

The eight practices include:

1. Walks with the Lord:

  • Text: Gen 6:9  These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
Col 2:6  Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,

We should be walking in complete intimacy with God daily, in continual pray, communication with God, seeking His face hour by hour. Under the full control of God, the Holy Spirit.

2. Maintains an Outstanding Character:

  • Text: Eph 4:24  and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Eph 4:22  “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,”

This really boils down to are you walking in Christ, have you put on Christ and put off the old nature, are you walking the walk, living out who you clime to be in Christ.

3. Serves the Local Church:

  • 1Co 12:7  To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
                     All of 1 Cor 12

No one should be just attending church, every person present should be exercising their Spiritual gifts every take the church gathers. Should be fulfilling their call if they have one within the church.

4. Remains Faithful to the Call

  • 1Ti 4:14  Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.
  • Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

5. Shares the Gospel Regularly

  • Acts 1:7 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth

This should be the way of life for every Christian, sharing the gospel should be their way of life, in words and deeds.

6. Raises Up Leaders

Every Christian should have a Timothy in their lives, some they are disciplining, they should be encouraging everyone to “stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Tim 1:6 We should be equipping other for service to the Lord and the body of Christ.
7. Encourages with Speech and Actions

  • Heb 10:24-25  and let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Every one of our conversations with others in the body should be encouraging them in their walk with Christ, fulfilling their calling and encouraging them in their daily life struggles.

8. Responds Appropriately to Conflict.

  • Matthew 18:35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”
  • Matt 18:23-35 The Parable of. The Unforgiving Servant
  • Heb 10:34 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

How we handle conflict really shows where we are in our Christian maturity, show if we really understand the forgiveness in Christ, if we are forgiving then we should have the same attitude towards others as Jesus points out in Matt 18:23-35

what side I have found that when it comes to Christians, what they believe, stand for depends on what side of the fence they are on, there current place in life. Like recently a friend posted on FB their support for a new bill that will pour billions into steam cell research. A year and a half ago like the majority of Christians they where against it, but do to current situation in their family they are now on the other side of the fence on that issue.

Just as Christians are against abortion, tell their 13 year old daughter get pregnant, or a single Christian girl gets pregnant, then they switch sides on the issue, they take the side that benefits them at the hour of their situation.

It’s no wonder the world no longer take Christians serious, we do not stand on what we say is truth in our own lives.

This is why the church needs to get back to teaching the word of God, teaching that obeying is not an option, that it is God Word, truth, the truth that all other things are measured by. That the word of God is to change our beliefs, not ours rewrite the bible. Christianity is not a set of beliefs you pick and chose from when they meet your current needs or life situation, but yet that is what it has been come in the US.

language of love & respect Usually when I am sent a book to review I get through it within a week to ten days. This book was different. It has taken me three weeks to get through. It’s hard book to read, it struggled to keep my interest is just seam to go on and on, repeating points a hundred different ways. This book could have edit down to half of its 355 pages and till might have been too long.

Dr. Emerson has some good information and points, but it seen to never get concisely to what he point was in a timely manner, they are well berried. Just about everything he shared I was glad to see I already new bout relationships and women, it just would have been nice to see a fresh perspective, a more clear concise application of them.

If someone is complete in the dark when it comes to communication with the other sex you can gain some understanding from this book, you will just have a hard time wadding through his page after page of reputation of examples of what he saying.

I would recommend his book Love & Respect over this one a much better read, it’s not that you will not find some diamonds in this one, it’s that it’s just like dinging in the diamond mines with a ice pick to find them, going to take you long and painful amount of time to get to them.

12-01-03 Why is it the people who preach/write about being content no matter what you life situation is, are married with a house full of children, have successful careers and or ministries?

I got a news letter today from a pastor whom I like and it was on contentment, just a couple of page with a card to send off to the a CD of his message the letter was take from. He states “It’s not a question of poverty or prosperity, or any external circumstance, true contentment endures in spite of our circumstances, it does not rise and fall with every turn of providence.”

I have yet to ever hear someone who was poor and needy, single past their 20’s who wanted to get married, someone out of work for a extended length of time, or in a bad dead end job get up in front of a church and preach on being content where they where. Never heard someone from the ghetto write a book on the joy and contentment they have in their life situation.

I’ve never heard a mother in the ghetto say I’m content my children are starving, have no heat. Never heard someone who desires to love and be loved, have a family say I’m content loveless and a lone and wish to stay this way. But I hear married successful people get in the pulpit and tell them they should be content in their situation all the time.

Those who preach on contentment in any circumstance of life, I have found where never content when if they ever even lacked the very things at all they tell others to live without (some have never lacked anything in life). It was only after they gained everything they wanted, needed in life that they make such statements to others. It’s as if they have forgotten what it was like for them, life before they got all they wanted, maybe it just a case of amnesia, the have forgotten where they came from. It’s funny that they give advice that they would not have accepted when they where, if ever in need. Been unwilling themselves to be content in the very same circumstances they tell others to be content in.

11-28-09 After reading a lot lately about social networks and online church communities,  I’ve been thinking about the term “friend” lately. With all the talk today about Twitter, Facebook and on line church. I think we must really look at the real definition of not only biblical community and relationships, but the very word "friend" and what that means. Today  social, personal relationships are measured in 140 characters, contained and maintained in 140 characters or less.

I hear people say I have 500 or more “friends” on Facebook, I’ve have 3,000 friends who follow me on Twitter, I text with 100 friends a day at school. Really, you thinks those are friends, that you have a real relationship with them. I beg to differ with anyone on those statements.

A resent survey I read showed people admitted that in the last year they spent 33% less time in actual live conversations with people ether via phone or in person. We are a society that is becoming more and more impersonal, and disconcerted from people in real intimate forms of communication. 1994 through 2004 Friends was the number one TV show. Everyone wanted what they had, there own posse of friends to hang out with like that. Today not so much true it seams these days.

Here is a sort list of the difference between a real, true friend and virtual friends:

Virtual Friends vs. True Friends

Say “hello everyone”

Give you a hug and a kiss.

Know you have parents.

Know your parents.

Never share a meal with you.

Help make dinner and will spend hours there, talking, laughing, playing cards and just being together.

Know about your favorite places.

Have been to your favorite places with you.

Have never seen you cry.

Cry with you.

Have never heard your laugh.

Recognize your laugh across a crowded room.

Know a few things about you.

Could write a book about who you are on the inside, what makes you tick.

Will leave you behind if that’s what the crowd is doing.

Will track down those who left you and kick their asses.

Will never knock on your door.

Walk right in and make themselves at home

Do not visit you in the hospital when you’re sick.

Show up at the hospital and spend the night with you in the hospital, and cut your grass and clean your house and cook for you when you come home.

Have you on their friends list.

Have been to where you live, work and play.

Are for a while.

Are for life.

Wanted: Volunteers to help the poor, needy homeless; Only those perfect and sinless need apply!

That could be, really should be how ministries advertise now days.

While exploring the opportunities to volunteer at a shelter or some other ministries this Thanksgiving I was disappointed to discover that was not possible to do. Why. Because if I so wished to do so I need to have “applied” to do so weeks ago, due to the fact that the places I talked to require that you fill out a multi-page application, the same type as one does to apply for a job today, say like the FBI. And you must apply early enough that they may do all the required background checks, you know your credit report, driving record, criminal record, tax records and currant and past employers and 5 references of course.

OK, I was not seeking employment, only to help the needy on Thanksgiving, and what dose ones credit score and driving record have to do with one helping the needy, spending the day serving food to the needy. I was both socked and enraged at the whole process. Even thou I can pass their screening, its not of God to do this, to say God only uses, wants sinless (according to mans definition) people to serve Him.

I have come to this conclusion, I will not support in any way, financially or with my time as a volunteer any organization that believes that great men of God such as King David, Moses, Mary Magdalene (none would have passed a background check , two where even where murders.

Nor would any former prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and such, the very ones whom made up the first church. Even Jesus Himself would have failed there app process, after all He was unemployed, homeless, He had no place to lay His head (bad credit score). Even the very ones Jesus picked to be His disciples, the ones that He invited not only into His Kingdom but to be His workers, builders of His Kingdom, could not pass the application process.

If King David, Moses, Paul, even Jesus are not allowed there, as far as I concerned neither do I. You see if Jesus where to apply today, He would have a criminal record, He is by today’s standard a convicted felon and would have a rap sheet. Any place that does not what Him, I want nothing to do with.

Jesus pick Mary Magdalene (a former prostitute, someone with a criminal record) to serve Him, be close to Him, the Pharisees and Sadducees rejected her, told her to get out. Even confronted Jesus for letting such a person in their mists, today the ministry leaders are just the same, justify their actions just as the Pharisees and Sadducees did. And Jesus response was her and her kind would enter the Kingdom of God before they would, His words still ring true today.
