05 Aug Getting the right perspective on wealth.
American Christians lack a realistic view, understanding of wealth, hopefully this will help some get a new perspective, look at just how blessed they really are.
- If you live in America and you:
Work at McDonald’s. You have a income higher than 80% of the world. Almost two in three people survive on less than $2 a day, with one in three living on less than $1 a day. 40 million people alone in Americans live in a state of poverty, hunger and hardship.
Ate 3 meals today. Over half of the world eats only 1 meal or less a day, over 1 billion did not eat at all today.
By world standards if you earned a least as much as a McDonald’s employee, you are among the richest 20% of the people in the world. And if you ate 3 meals today, you are better off than half the world.
When one conceders these facts, you really gain a new perspective on life, perhaps a new understanding of just how thankful you should be about your living situation. And to reconsider God’s words when He said “For of those to whom much is given, much is required”. Luke 12:48. Maybe you have always said, He is talking to the top rich people, you know the well off ones, but if you are in the top 20% of the world richest, well, that would be you. Something for us to think about.
