I’m tired of going to church and seeing a big production. I’m tired of feeling like I’m at a rock concert or a funeral  when it comes time to worship in church. I’m tired of hearing shallow sermons presented with a flashy power-point and HD videos. Tired of message that are carefully filtered to be PC, not to offend anyone, so that it would Not Convince, rebuke, or exhort anyone. I don’t go to church to be entertained, I can entertain myself well enough on my own time. I don’t go to hear a sermon that sounds like a self help book. Of going to church that you do not need to bring your bible to. I feel that it would be too much to ask to simply have a pastor open the bible and expound on the word of God. I come to church to be with others on the same mission, Jesus’ mission He sent us on and to be equipped for that mission, to share the gospel and make disciples.

When I read the scriptures that is what I am longing for, what I read about in Acts, what I read church to be, is want I long for.

I want to erase everything I have learned about church in America, in bible college, seminars, books and the church. I want to open my bible and do what it say church is! Read what is God saying in the scriptures church is about and what the first church did, read it and go and do it. I want a church that looks just like that, what I see in the bible. I Would not come up with what we have in America as church by simply reading scripture, that’s not what would I come up with for what church is if I just read the scriptures, not what I see today. When a married man says, “I love my wife even though I Lust after every pretty girl that I see,” is lying to himself, what he’s really saying is his heart goes out to his poor wife while his flesh goes out to every pretty girl. The husband is essentially split in half: he’s not a whole person, he is not wholehearted towards either of them. He isn’t really loving either of them, that’s not love. And this is where Jesus was most clear about real love. There’s a maturity there that does not see in part but loves in full. It leaves the childish ways of playing with toys that you leave on the floor; while yelling at your parents demanding more toys still yet. He is the immature child that has a toy in hand but screams and throws a temper tantrum wanting the toy another child  has, he either appreciates or loves neither of them. Love sees sincerely, without hypocrisy, love seeks after the good of the other, it is single-minded.

Love cannot exist in a lie, saying you’re in love with one while desiring, lusting after another is a lie. Love is bound in truth, and in such it is fully alive.

In Greek there are five types of love, they are found in the bible. One being Eros (???? ér?s) is passionate love, physical or sensual desire and longing.  i.e. Lust. Another is Agape (???? agápe) which means “supreme love, an ‘unconditional love”  as in “I love you” i.e. In love with, the highest form of love.

I believe that too many men sadly and mistakenly marry someone for Eros, out of pure lust for them, not because they are In Love with them, and therefore they lust after others, because their heart is not in the marriage. They are not In Love with their mate, only in lust with them and lust is never faithful, it covets without end. So it will continually seek what it does not have, seeks fulfillment, it’s never satisfied. It wants only what it does not have. But no one who marries someone because they Agape them, are In love with them, will lust after another, they will not because the one has their whole heart. They are satisfied, fulfilled, their heart has what it wants.

I have married guys who lust after other women tell me I do not understand because I not married, which is nonsense. you don’t have to be  married to know that is wrong, not normal. And I have been in many long term relationships and I never once lusted after another woman while in a committed love (Agape) relationship. I was engaged once and I never even as much as noticed another girl. Why would I, I was in love (Agape) with her, she had my whole heart, she was the only girl I wanted, I was in love with her. She meets my every need, she lacked nothing that I wanted or needed in a woman. No other woman could have offered me anything, I was deeply in love with Joan, as the song by Art Garfunkel goes, “I Only Have Eyes For You”, and I did only had eyes for her. My eyes, my heart, my mind desired her alone and none other. That is at the heart of being In Love with someone, you only want  them. That’s how you know they are The One, The Only one you want to spend your life with, and so it was with Joan. I never, ever betrayed Joan even once, not even with my eyes.

So I am speaking from experience, I believe based on my life experience, as well as other married men whom I have known that were in love with their wives that it is imposable to truly be in love with one woman and lust after every skirt that walks by.

I will leave you with the lyrics to “I Only Have Eyes For You”

My love must be a kind of blind love.
I can’t see anyone but you.

Are the stars out tonight?
I don’t know if it’s cloudy or bright.
I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high,
But I can’t see a thing in the sky.
‘Cause I only have eyes for you.

I don’t know if we’re in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue.

You are here, so am I.
Maybe millions of people go by.
But they all disappear from view.
And I only have eyes for you.

In some mysterious way that we can never fully understand, during these awful hours on the cross, the Father was pouring out the full measure of His wrath against sin and the recipient of that wrath was His own beloved Son. God was punishing Jesus as though He had personally committed every wicked deed committed by every wicked sinner. And in doing so, He could treat and forgive those redeemed ones as if they had lived Christ’s perfect life of righteousness. – Greg Laurie

I was challenged and inspired at the same time by Bickle’s teaching sessions at Onething, amazingly a lot of what Bickle taught on built on the burden and passion for prayer that has been building up in me the last year. Built on what God was already teaching me over the last year on prayer. Gave me the how to have what I have been reading about and jealous after in the lives of men of great faith and pray that I admire, like Gorge Muller, Praying John Hyde and many others.

What I took away was…. (more…)

So now I am working on my goals for 2011, compiling my to do list if you will, my goals for the next coming year.

For one am I continuing with 365 Days of Love that I did a few times last year, but my goal for 2011 is to do it every day, to do an act of love for someone. (more on that in another post)

It is in my struggles of the nearly 3 years now that I have come to realize it is in the challenges of life that we find our character, and discover what needs to be changed. It is in the problems that we discover new purpose. In them what faith is put to the test, and it’s in them alone that faith grows.

One of my issues, pains in my life is my life is void of love, being single I have no love in my life, no one to love ether. Love is powerful yet love is painful. So I am seeking to add love to my life, by doing acts of love for others. When I look at Jesus on the cross and see a man full of love and yet full of pain, one who gave love away even when He had none from others, even in the midst of pain and suffering. How can love and pain exist together? (more…)

Imagine if the wise men had gotten tired waiting for that bright star and had decided to quit that night and go to bed. They would have easily missed the star that would eventually lead them to Jesus. But they new the scriptures, they new the season of the coming of the promised one, the Messiah. And they where sensitive to the leading of God, because they where living in expectance of the coming of the promised one, know the season according to scripture, they where ready to receive the coming one. It’s not the fast-paced songs or the dynamic highly skilled band or the fancy light show and sound system that helps us worship, that is have real worship. It’s our personal revelation of who God is that leads us to a place of reverent worship where we do not feel the need of a worship leader or a band to get us there. The wise men knew who Jesus was and therefore required no high adrenaline music, no introduction, no motivation. Absolutely nothing but the revelation of God drove them to seek Him out and brought them to their knees in worship before Him. (more…)

I was reminded today of the words of Jesus “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” that is so often quoted. But if you read the entire verse, and the two before it, that are the complete statement of Jesus. I think we might just learn that His statement “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” does not mean what everyone thinks it does.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Mat 28:17-20

His words I am with you always seem to be linked to going, doing all the tings He mentions before those those famous words, that is what is known as the great commission. (more…)

I became aware yesterday of just how thankful I should be of the mercy of God towards me, as it was brought to my attention just how many people whom called themselves Christians I have known over the years. That ether no longer walk with Christ, have left the faith completely, in other beliefs now. That have traded the truths of God for the lies of others. That now follow another Jesus, one created in their own image, a god to their own liking, one who agrees with their beliefs. So many that have stop believing the truths of and about God because of events in their lives, or just a shift in how they wanted to live their lives, the lifestyle they want to live out, what they want to be truth for them.

I thank God that I have never left Him or forsake Him or His truths, that I have by His grace and Spirit have stood firm on the bible and what it teaches. Clung to biblical Jesus, the real Jesus, and have not made a Jesus in my image. (more…)

I was thinking it is amazing to think that God invites us to imitate Him, Jesus said to imitate Him, live the same life He lived. The Apostle Paul invites us to imitate him as he imitates Jesus. That we have all His power at our disposal, that we can inherit all His riches, they are ours if we chose to come and trade our lives for His, choose to imitate His life.

“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” 1 Cor 11:1

But yet only a remnant, a small number of people every chose to take up His offer, to live a life imitating Him, living out life just as He did. To accept and receive all the inheritance that is ours to have, His power, gifts and riches.

But yet if Bill Gates, or Warren Buffett where to make the same offer, to say come imitate my life, live out my life, receive the inheritance of my wealth. There would be a stampede of every man, woman and child older enough to understand what is theirs to have. To take them up on their offer, to live out their life, life style, and take all they have as their own. Herds of people would stampede to their door to take up their offer.

It is just beyond amazing that the God of creation, Jesus Himself says come and follow Me, imitate My life, it is yours and all it inheritance for the asking. Everything you see me do you will do and do even greater things. And yet only a hand full take Jesus up on His offer. He offers a greater greater life, greater inheritance than anyone would have intimating Gates or Buffett, but He has few takers, not even those who claim to be Christain rush to take the offer.
