I’m tired of going to church and seeing a big production. I’m tired of feeling like I’m at a rock concert or a funeral  when it comes time to worship in church. I’m tired of hearing shallow sermons presented with a flashy power-point and HD videos. Tired of message that are carefully filtered to be PC, not to offend anyone, so that it would Not Convince, rebuke, or exhort anyone. I don’t go to church to be entertained, I can entertain myself well enough on my own time. I don’t go to hear a sermon that sounds like a self help book. Of going to church that you do not need to bring your bible to. I feel that it would be too much to ask to simply have a pastor open the bible and expound on the word of God. I come to church to be with others on the same mission, Jesus’ mission He sent us on and to be equipped for that mission, to share the gospel and make disciples.

When I read the scriptures that is what I am longing for, what I read about in Acts, what I read church to be, is want I long for.

I want to erase everything I have learned about church in America, in bible college, seminars, books and the church. I want to open my bible and do what it say church is! Read what is God saying in the scriptures church is about and what the first church did, read it and go and do it. I want a church that looks just like that, what I see in the bible. I Would not come up with what we have in America as church by simply reading scripture, that’s not what would I come up with for what church is if I just read the scriptures, not what I see today. Acts 29 WE Boot Camp “For All Seasons“, Day 2, the finale day, once again was Mark Driscoll and Steve Timmis. Steve Timmis closed it out. Here are the bullet points from Timmis teaching. He hammered it, these are the points that spoke to me, hit me where it counts.

Once again God wrecks me, He has so wreck me for what everyone considers the normal life. I am wrecked, refreshed & restored,  all the stuff the gospel does to you!

It’s only the gospel that tells me who I am (identity), why I am (purpose), and what I am (function).

Love God and love people: “The gospel says whoever it’s about, it’s never about me!”

I can’t tell you ‘let’s go and plant’ but I can tell you who,why and what you are ‘in Christ’ so that succeed or fail you can glorify God. (more…)

Acts 29 Western Europe Boot Camp called “For All Seasons” is taking place in Birmingham, England was today, and once again I got to precipitate via the web. Gather in the nuggets of wisdom from some top pastors – church planters. Mark Driscoll and Steve Timmis two men I highly respect.

So God continues His stream of messages on the same themes coming my way, with the third conference on church planting in a week. Still do not know what God is up to. Besides intensifying the passions in me, fanning the fire and zeal in me for preaching the gospel, church planting, feeding the hungry and going, going somewhere, anywhere over seas.

Here are the key points from today.

  • Jesus is coming back and it’s gonna be awesome! That’s basically our eschatology!” M Driscoll
  • “Without the Holy Spirit you ain’t gonna do jack, or if you do it’s gonna be evil!” Driscoll
  • “Church planting/evangelism/mission is not something we do for God. It’s something He does through us.” Driscoll
  • “You cannot be a church planter and a cessationist!” Driscoll
  • “Practice repentance, don’t just preach it.” M Driscoll
  • “Planting is about disciples not decisions. Not just people who vote for Jesus 1 day, but people who vote for Jesus every day!” (more…)

I got to participate in the Closing the Gap Conference today via the webcast, this on the heals of the Exponential conference last Wed – Friday. On the same theme of church planting with missions mixed in with it. Got a lot out of it. God continued His theme with me preaching the gospel, Church planning, missions, going, not excepting the status quo anymore.

God threw gas on the fire and zeal He kindled in me with the Exponential stream of teaching. God is up to something, do not know what yet.

Here are my notes bullets:

  • You may be getting nervous because your status quo isn’t changing the way it needs to change.” Jim Haney.
  • There is a decline in evangelical growth in the world today.
  • 86% of Buddhists, Muslims, and Hindus have no relationship with a Christian. (more…)

Notes from Neil Cole, the founder and executive director of Church Multiplication Associates, notes from his teaching at the  Exponential Conference 2011.

He states he finally found the secret of church multiplication. That it was right under his nose. The secret to multiplication is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Christ in each of us, is the power.

It isn’t a strategy, it is Christ in each of us.

Don’t plant churches, plant Jesus

church doesn’t really change lives. Jesus changes lives. We need to put our faith in that, instead of our organization, and institution.

Connect everyone to Christ, make everyone disciples. (more…)

Here are some more highlight from the Exponential Conference 2011 the last day, I will be also post some more complete notes from the workshop, and more about what God is doing in me through what I picked up from this conference. This is more bullet points, one liners that grabbed the heart of the message, and me, being taught.

Friday 4-29-11

God has a mission for you, the question is will you accept it?

“it’s not just about believing the gospel, it’s about you applying the gospel to your life”

Discipleship needs to be at the heart of all we do – Jo Saxton

If you make disciples, you always get the church. If you build a church you will rarely get disciples

Discipleship was Jesus’ strategy to change the world

We need to make disciples who make disciples (more…)

I got to partake in, that is eavesdrop in on the Exponential Conference in Orlando FL via the web on Thursday. It was great. It was gasoline on the fire of my sole. The conference was for church planters, one of my great passions. So may of the things said stir my heart and soul. God ignited many emotions and zeal in my heart for church planting. I was so over taken by the Spirit on Thursday, I felt the presence and power of the Spirit on me and in me. Woke up with the Spirit still on me in a powerful way on this morning (Friday). Here are some notes from the conference, key points that caught my attention. His is how I felt on Thursday “My heads about to explode, I’m anxious, my hearts on fire, full of zeal from what’s going on at exponential Just had my world rocked” There will be a part two to this from the Friday session.

“Church is a who not a what, is deployed not gathered, is a verb not a noun. Reggie McNeal ”

“The secret to church multiplication, is Christ in you, not strategy”

“The Church is not the destination, the Kingdom is. ‘Thy Kingdom come…'” -Reggie McNeal

“What if we could see the church not as a place but a movement attacking the gates of hell? (more…)

After reading a post about a church planter closing down his ‘church plant” this is what I noticed about it. He stated “We could have continued as a rogue small group or house church in the area, but frankly that has never interested us” Now I not accusing him of this but to me when I read a statement like that, I believe this person was not a true church planter, or they truly just do not know what a church is according to scripture.

First I see he had a church, whether he realize it or not God gave him a flock to shepherd, to feed, a body to disciple, but that appears to be not what he was really after. Greg Louie started with a bible study that went on for years before it moved into a building and became a “church” if you will, but he will argue it was a church when is was only him and a few people gathering at his place, today he has a church of 10,000, but now is 35 year later. And I can name a long list of others whom did the same thing, but they where faithful to what God gave them. (more…)

Ed Stetzer just posted a great article on his blog “Apostolic Harvest” Church Planting– Your Input Requested” I would recommend everyone read and join in his conservation with your ideas. I quote his open line which describes one church model his post was about.

“Many different biblical methods are effective for planting a church, and God does not bless only one way. However, in this post, I want to raise one specific model for discussion: what I call the “apostolic harvest church planter,” as laid out in my book Planting Missional Churches (B&H Academic, 2006). This is also considered in my new co-authored book (with Warren Bird), Viral Churches (Jossey-Bass, 2010).”

apostolic

His above image shows his model, I like and endorse his model but would like to suggest slight change to the model that I like even better, that is not just one who plants and leaves, raising up only one to stay behind and lead with only the original planter being sent but multitudes being raised up and sent. And you never stop sending. We need to get away from the one man show model in how we do church, and the paid professional only model. Church is everyone’s job, everyone plays a part according to their gifting and there seldom is just one of each gift. We need to be constantly raising up and sending out, not one, but many. Every pastor should be making disciples just like Jesus modeled, and Paul did. Jesus did 12 at a time, He was about reproducing Himself, and sending out to do the same thing, every pastor should be reproducing himself, passing on to others continually and sending out continually.

I truly think it would be great to have the attitude that everyone who comes in the door is being prepared to go out as a church planter or missionary. That is the right attitude, not to crate and building full of pew warming groupies of the pastor who set and let the pros put on “church” for them.

The original planter, the “apostolic planter” as Ed calls him, leaves the first church and move on when he feels the Lord says to. He is in the business of training not only his replacement but others to do the same thing as him. Some may leave and plant and stay in the same place for years or become an “apostolic planter” also. Each according to their calling of the Lord.

Just think if a church just sent out just 20% of its men to plant, a church of 3,000 would send out 600 planters a year. And Then each of those planters plants do the same thing. Do you see how fast the number increase exponentially.

I doctored up Ed’s image a little to show what I would like to see.
