I blogged about what I got out of the Onething conference regarding prayer on Monday, the Lord has added more to what He is teaching me. Someone I admire very much for his spiritual life and ministry shared about an aspect of prayer that hit home with me, added to my new arsenal of tools for prayer.

Here is some of what Jaeson Ma shared on his blog,

“Waiting upon the Lord has been the secret to my spiritual life. It is what keeps my heart burning with passion for Jesus 24-7.”

He said that someone had told him that, “Waiting upon the Lord, are you hungry for more of God, do you want to be on fire for God 24-7? Then you must learn to wait upon the Lord.” And so he put it into practice in his life. Jaeson went on to say, We need to wait on God by being still, silent, and to daily gaze at God’s beauty for long periods of time, hours, not minutes. (more…)

I had an amazing day last Thursday at the Onething conference, Mike Bickels afternoon teaching session rocked my soul. One of the things from Mikes teaching that captivated my heart was his stories he shared, he has a life time of awesome stories to share of what God had done in and threw his life. And I want that, I want stories of God to share, new stories everyday of God working in my life, His power, His work, about Him in my life in big ways. I want volumes of stories like Bickle’s to share of God working in and trough my life, stories of His provision, of miracles that I may encourage other believers with, build up their faith with. And to share with believers about the God I serve, His love, provision and reality in my life. (more…)

I was challenged and inspired at the same time by Bickle’s teaching sessions at Onething, amazingly a lot of what Bickle taught on built on the burden and passion for prayer that has been building up in me the last year. Built on what God was already teaching me over the last year on prayer. Gave me the how to have what I have been reading about and jealous after in the lives of men of great faith and pray that I admire, like Gorge Muller, Praying John Hyde and many others.

What I took away was…. (more…)

Imagine if the wise men had gotten tired waiting for that bright star and had decided to quit that night and go to bed. They would have easily missed the star that would eventually lead them to Jesus. But they new the scriptures, they new the season of the coming of the promised one, the Messiah. And they where sensitive to the leading of God, because they where living in expectance of the coming of the promised one, know the season according to scripture, they where ready to receive the coming one. It’s not the fast-paced songs or the dynamic highly skilled band or the fancy light show and sound system that helps us worship, that is have real worship. It’s our personal revelation of who God is that leads us to a place of reverent worship where we do not feel the need of a worship leader or a band to get us there. The wise men knew who Jesus was and therefore required no high adrenaline music, no introduction, no motivation. Absolutely nothing but the revelation of God drove them to seek Him out and brought them to their knees in worship before Him. (more…)

C. H. Spurgeon, Charles Finney, Smith Wigglesworth, Leonard Ravenhill, George Whitefield, D L Moody, William Carey, George Mueller, John Hyde and Edward Payson.

What do all these men have in common besides God doing some of His greatest works through them, leading revivals, changing nations, and that they all where gifted with power from on high to do great and supernatural works.

In studying their lives I found three things they all had in common, Prayer, Fasting and the Word of God. I found that all of these men prayed for hours a day, they fasted regularly, they all both studied the scriptures daily and preached the word of God. And I found that all of them say those things where the secret to the power of God in their lives, prayer, fasting and the word where at the core of ther life with God. And if you study all the great men of the bible like Elijah, Ezekiel, Daniel and Jesus’ Himself of course, you will find those same three things in their lives also.

I do not mean casual prayer, I mean hours a day of agonizing, passionate prayer, a prayer life measured in hours a day not minutes. Prayer that went form sundown to sun up without ceasing was the norm.

Edward Payson: He was nicknamed “Praying Payson.” It has been said that the wooden floor at his bedside was worn by his knees from his often prevailing.

Leonard Ravenhill: “No man is greater than his prayer life.” and “Pastors who do not spend two hours a day in prayer are not worth a dime a dozen – degrees or no degrees.”

Smith Wigglesworth: Never went more than 15 minutes without reading the word.

George Mueller: “I live in the spirit of prayer; I pray as I walk, when I lie down and when I rise.”

What I found was they spent almost as much time on their face before God praying as they did upright before men it seems. They all studied the scriptures day and night, tell the word of God was flowing through there veins, filling their every thought and conversations with others. And they fasted weekly, and for as long as 40 days on a regular bases, prayer, being in the presence of God was their food. Studying the word of God was their substance.

I think the example set before us by these men is one for all of us to follow, put into practice in our lives.

I do not believe for one minute that it is a coincidence that every great man of God, everyone who has lead a great work of God was a great man of prayer. Men who labored in prayer daily for hours at a time, I believe that is the kind of person God uses. It is only out of daily face to face encounter with God that God’s power and presences flows, the person whom God does His greatest work through.

I for one chouse to follower their lead, and what I believe God wanted me to learn from the last few weeks. So I have made the commitment to become a man of prayer just as all of those I listed above where, to spend no less than two hours a day in deep, prevailing prayer, to be an intercessory, to pray without ceasing.

This is about God changing the way I pray, the how, why and how much daily. This is a whole another level of prayer, way of praying, deeper, more passionate, more spirit centered, more others centered. God is teaching me how to pray all over again, His way. I want to pray as the men I listed prayed, have their prayer life, pray like Jesus prayed. To be contented in another post….

Read the Acts of the Apostles and all you read about is prayer, prayer, prayer. When they had prayed the place was shaken, lives where changed, the power of God was manifested, souls where saved, people healed, the world was turned upside down and the kingdom of Heaven was brought to earth, that is what I want my prayer life to be like.

Acts 6:4, “give yourself continually, persistently to prayer and the Word of God.”

0306202304“When we pray up it brings heaven down. Without prayer the supernatural can not invade the natural, but with prayer the kingdom of heaven can invade and change the kingdom of man.” God proved this last night in our gathering, the Kingdom of Heaven invaded last night.

I had a awesome night of warship and prayer last night, gathering for over 5 hours with the body. Had a incredible encounter with God, face to face with Him, His glory, His love, His forgiveness. I came away changed by the encounter with God. Woke up sing songs and praising God. Last night I experienced ‘when we pray up, heaven comes down’.  (Jaeson Ma learned the same thing yesterday, must have been God’s theme for the day.)

God did amazing work in me last night, chains where broken, I was freed of things in my past, and thoughts that kept me a prisoner of my past. The Holy Spirit was on me is such a powerfully way. I have been changed, made a new person from this day forward I pray. I woke up singing & dancing before the Lord covered in His love & presence, singing “Who the Son has set free is free indeed, Halleluiah, Halleluiah!”

It is in the time spent in the presence of God, in prayer and fasting that we meet God face to face, that we truly get changed, grow in are likeness of Christ. A persons level of likeness of Christ, spirituality, transformation will not rise above the level of prayer life we have. Both the amount of time and the depth of our prayers, time waiting on, listening to God vs talking. Hours of deep prayer a day, result in a deep abiding relationship with God, and a life transformed into the likeness of Christ, a life formed by the will of God.

03-17-10A pastor in LA that I am acquainted with has been a great encouragement to me twice this year in a big way. I have take up following he’s lead in two ways for this year, the first was in Feb when I begin my 365 Days of Love for this year. And after watching him live this past Sunday speak as a gust at a church I have recommitted to giving the first fruits of my day to God. I get up an hour earlier to spend an extra hour in prayer.

But this is me just waiting before the Lord, not coming with a shopping list, this is me just Loving on God and Him loving on me. Prayer by definition of the Hebrew is waiting – listening – action. And that is just what I do, I started on Monday morning, an hour of just waiting, listening for God to speak and then taking action on what ever He says.

Pray and Obey that is, I wait, love on Him, bask in His love for me, and listen to His voice. What ever He says, I am will to do, set my agenda for the day to His for me.

After just the first two days what a difference it has made in me and my days. I recommend that everyone get up an hour earlier and spend it on your face before God, just loving on Him and waiting on Him, nothing more. I put on the live stream from the IHOP prayer room in the back ground so I have a steady stream of worship surrounding me.

This is not to replace other times of prayer, but rather an addition to, the giving of your first fruits of the day. As Jesus said “could you even watch with me one hour?” Matthew 26:40

Can you, can you give even just an hour to just sit and love on God, and wait on Him daily? What could possibly be more important that setting before God and loving on Him and letting Him love on you? Nothing I can think of for me anyway.

Two things I ask of you, O LORD;
do not refuse me before I die:
8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
      Give me neither poverty nor riches—
      Feed me with the food allotted to me;
9 Lest I be full and deny You,
      And say, “Who is the LORD?”
      Or lest I be poor and steal,
      And profane the name of my God.
Proverbs 30:7-9

A prayer that we all need to take to heart. He is basically asking God to let him live pay check to paycheck, that is so anti American. Goes against the grain of what so many churches preach today. I think even churches need to pray this payer regarding income lest they fall away in the same way, for get the Lord become the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2 leaving their first love, God.

I seek to take this verse to heart and pray it. How about you, will you?

Listen to Francis Chan 2 min video on the verse here>>

man praying on knee And He taught, saying to them, Is it not written, "My house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?"  Mark 11:17

Jesus was quoting Isa 56:7 when He made the above statement when He was chastising the people for what they hade made the Temple into. Here Jesus was saying what God had already stated one of the purposes of the Temple, the forerunner of the church. Jesus had found the Temple lacking, not fulfilling one of its purposes, prayer. Prayer is to be center stage when God’s people gather.

How about your church on Sunday, would anyone who was there say that your church was a house of prayer. If Jesus visited it today would He make the same statement of your church as He did the Temple in Mark 11?

I’m not talking about, or is God a one or two minute prayer at the beginning of the service. Or a 60 second closing prayer at the end ether. I’m talking about Gethsemanes garden level praying here, earth moving, world changing, on your face praying. Does that describe your church service today?

If your church was not a house of prayer on Sunday, ask your pastor why it is not. If you are the pastor why isn’t your church a house of prayer. God said, Jesus said that the gathering of Gods people was to be known as a house of prayer for the nations. Any gathering of God’s people, the church should consist of Spirit lead, Spirit filled, Spirit empowered prayer. The church should be praying for the nations and each other every time it gathers.
